Coconut Oil for Ichthyosis

Ichthyosis is a skin condition, which is usually inherited, and is describe by accumulation of dead skin cells resulting in thick and dry scales on the skin. Ichthyosis slows down the natural shedding of the skin cells. This results in growth of the keratin in the topmost layer of the skin. Due to the presence of the scales in ichthyosis, it is sometimes called as fish skin disease or fish scale disease.
As of now, there is no known cure for this condition. Ichthyosis Natural Treatment with coconut oil is done to manage and control the symptoms.


You can also take half a cup of sugar and mix it with any cold pressed oil such as olive or coconut oil and mix thoroughly. Smoothly massage this scrub all over the body. You can also take 100 grams of sea salt and mix it coconut or olive hair oil. You can also add your favorite fragrance oil into the combination. Combine it thoroughly and keep it in an airtight container. Use it on slightly wet skin and scrub it softly in upward strokes. Wash off with water.

A nice soaking bath will help in softening the skin. After this, smoothly massage the skin with a rough-textured loofa or sponge to take away the thick scales.
Always pat your skin gently after a bath, so that different moisture is left on the skin.
Always use mild soaps with added oils.

Do not use perfumes and antibacterial soaps, as they worsen a dry skin.
Using a humidifier will help in adding moisture to the air.

After a bath, apply moisturizer cream, such as petroleum jelly, while the skin is still damp, this will help you seal in the moisture.
